St. James PhotoRama

What? Don't look at me; I'm not responsible...

But I told him who's boss around here...

And you think cats are sly...

Yes, I can TOO put the whole thing in my mouth!

Watch out, I know karate.

Or maybe I simply want to bless you.

No, thanks; I couldn't possibly eat any more.

Well, perhaps I do have room for cake...

Cute pics. I want to know how you did the top banner. That is cool.

"I want to know how you did the top banner."

The hard way. After finding the portrait of St. James, I removed his image from the frame in Paint, saved the frame, imported it into Microsoft Word, layered it over pictures of ourselves, copied the new images, and pasted them into Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006 Editor (the free version with all the really good features turned off).

I found an image of a crucifix on the web that I liked, cropped it, and adjusted the color in MDISE2006E so it matched the rest of the layout. Once I had all of the elements, the layout pretty much fell into place.

I had a general idea of what effect I wanted (our family under the cross), but figuring out how to make this sort of banner in a free digital image editor without features was the trickiest part of the entire process.

I also created the new (and old) banner at St. Charles Place in a similarly awkward fashion.

how did you get to fit in the field right?

I built this blog layout off the layout from St. Charles Place, which I in turn built off a Blogger template (a rounders one, I believe). The template I used either listed the width of the page or I found the image width by looking at its properties. The image itself is 744 px wide by 202 px high.

I can send you the templates, if you wish. St. James Place appears to use the same layout as your own blog. E-mail me directly at chuk_gottschall AT juno DOT com if I can help you out more.
